One of the things I’ve liked best about this trip are the personal stories that NOLA citizens have told. We’ve had the chance to speak to several people who’ve been able to tell us their version of Hurricane Katrina. Our volunteer leader told us his story about having to come back and get whatever wasn’t damaged from their home and live with a host family for about a month. They didn’t have school for almost 2 months and were only able to learn via satellite. I liked the reality of this because the only visual I had of the hurricane was from the news. These made it real.
