Are you protected?

The Northwest laptops come pre-installed with a great anti-virus program, Microsoft Forefront Client Security; however, is it enough to keep a computer safe? The truth is that even a great program like Microsoft Forefront Client Security does not catch all of the destructive programs that have been written. Northwest suggests a few programs that students can download to help adequately protect their Northwest laptops as well as personal computers.

Some of the programs that Northwest suggests include Ad-aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware, and SuperAntiSpyware. All of these programs are available for download at http://download.cnet.com. If used regularly with Microsoft Forefront Client Security, users can dramatically reduce the likelihood of damage to your computer due to malicious software. Students should also remember to periodically update their anti-virus software and restart their computers so the updates take effect.

Northwest also requires that if a student wishes to connect to the network with a personal computer that it has sufficient anti-virus software installed and running. If the student does not have an anti-virus program installed it is suggested that the student download and install AVG Free from http://download.cnet.com. Also, it would be beneficial to the student to download one of the aforementioned malware or spyware programs to better protect their computer.
